Blackwater Falls State Park
Plunging from a height of five stories, the famous falls of the Blackwater River pose a spectacular sight for both first-time visitors and devout fans of Blackwater Falls State Park. The park itself is dominated by the deep boulder-strewn gorge through which the river courses. Overlooks offer panoramic views from several vantage points on the edge of the gorge, including one from the "Gentle Trail," which features a paved, level surface, affording disabled guests the opportunity to view the falls. Overnight guests may choose from a recently refurnished 55-room lodge perched on the forested rim of the canyon, 25 modern cabins scattered through the heavily wooded park and a 65-site tent and trailer campground for accommodation. The Nordic Ski Center and extensive cross-country ski trails provide added dimension to a winter visit at the park. Spring wildflowers, multi-colored fall forests, deep winter snows and a four-season nature/recreation program make Blackwater a popular year-round tourist attraction.
