New River Train excursion in Huntington
The Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society is proud to present the world-reknowned New River Train excursions through the beautiful New River Gorge in southern West Virginia. It is during this peak autumn foliage time that our train traverses the former Chesapeake & Ohio mainline from Huntington, WV to Hinton, WV, allowing for a front-row seat to some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.
Your support and patronage is essential in order to preserve this annual event, and hopefully speed the day when steam might again return to the New River.

Trip Overview
Each of the four trips depart at 8:30 a.m. from the platform at the Huntington C&O Depot located at 7th Avenue and 8th Street in Huntington. The train will later stop in St. Albans and Montgomery, giving passengers the option of three boarding locations. After leaving Huntington, the train rolls through the Teays Valley area to the Kanawha River near St. Albans, staying along the Kanawha all the way to the mouth of the New River at Gauley Bridge. The tracks then follow the New River for the remainder of the trip into Hinton.
Landmarks and scenic locations on the route include downtown Charleston and the State Capitol building, WVU Tech in Montgomery, Kanawha Falls, Hawks Nest Dam and bridge, the famous New River Gorge Bridge at Fayetteville, Grandview, Stretcher Neck Tunnel, Sandstone Falls, and numerous historical artifacts and towns from the New River's rich coal mining era.

Our destination of Hinton, WV offers a street fair each day with local food stands, arts and crafts, entertainment, a railroad museum, and many other attractions. Passengers will have approximately three hours to tour Hinton while the train is being prepared for the return trip west.
Passengers have the option of Coach, Premium, or Private Car service. The trains routinely sell out early, so we encourage you to reserve your seats as soon as possible.
Ticket Info & Pricing
Coach tickets include seating in air conditioned/heated Horizon or Heritage-type cars, including either bi-level Amtrak Superliner cars or standard Amtrak-approved cars. Souvenir and concession areas are located in the coach section.

Air Conditioned/Heated Horizon or Heritage COACH seating
Premium Service passengers will enjoy either lounge-type, parlor car, dome/lounge style seating. Concessions, souvenirs and a continental breakfast will be available. The hallmark of Premium Service, however, is a dinner prepared and served in the diner car or lounge car during our evening return trip through the New River Gorge.
Availability of premium seating is limited, and reservations are given on a first-come, first serve basis. Premium Service equipment will vary from year to year.

Private Car service embodies the finest of railroad travel accomodations. Along with plush seating and bedroom compartments, lunch and dinner will be served on the train in a dining room setting.

Additional Information
Boarding at the trainsite: The boarding/detraining sites may have uneven footing and will require walking from the parking areas nearby to the boarding locations. Walking will be required at all locations. In Hinton, we expect to have transportation only for those unable to walk up the hill to the street fair.
Handicapped Persons: If you will be traveling in a wheelchair or other such device, you will be responsible to provide any person(s) necessary to assist in loading, unloading and onboard mobility. Please let us know if you will be with us, in advance. We can accommodate only at our Huntington boarding site.
Due to the historical nature of much of the Amtrak and private equipment and non standard boarding/detraining locations, the train is generally not handicap accessible. Coaches are better equipped. We will make every effort to assist those in need. Let us know of your needs prior to the trip.
Train runs rain or shine. Substitute equipment may be used.

Camera and video equipment is welcome.
Everyone who occupies a seat must have a ticket. Children under three who don't occupy a seat may ride for free, but they must be under the supervision of a responsible adult.
The possession or consumption of intoxicating beverages or illicit drugs is strictly forbidden on the train.
For the comfort of all of our passengers, smoking is not permitted on the train.
No part of the cost can be deducted from income taxes as a contribution.
Coolers cannot exceed 12 can capacity and must not occupy any seat.
Group Discounts: Groups of 15 or more adults receive a 10% discount. You must order your tickets at the same time. Why not charter an entire car (72 coach seats or 23 to 50 premium seats) and have a gala railroad outing with friends or associates?
Seating: Car assignments will be made in premium, and private cars, all coach seating is unreserved, however, individual seating is first come first serve basis. The seat you go to Hinton is also yours for the return trip. We will make every effort to seat groups together, however, we cannot guarantee any seating arrangements prior to the trips.
