No part of the cost can be deducted from income taxes as a contribution. Coolers cannot exceed 12 can capacity and must not occupy any seat. Group Discounts: Groups of 15 or more adults receive a 10% discount. You must order your tickets at the same time. Why not charter an entire car (72 coach seats or 23 to 50 premium seats) and have a gala railroad outing with friends or associates? Seating: Car assignments will be made in premium, and private cars, all coach seating is unreserved, however, individual seating is first come first serve basis. New River Train excursion in Huntington
The Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society is proud to present the world-reknowned New River Train excursions through the beautiful New River Gorge in southern West Virginia. As one of the newest national parklands, the "Grand Canyon of the East" along the New River is aglow in fall colors in mid to late October. NEW ! DVD and VCR recordings of the 2005 excursions. It is during this peak autumn foliage time that our train traverses the former Chesapeake & Ohio mainline from Huntington, WV to Hinton, WV, allowing for a front-row seat to some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. Your support and patronage is essential in order to preserve this annual event, and hopefully speed the day when steam might again return to the New River. 2007 Excursion Dates Saturday, October 20 Sunday, October 21 Saturday, October 27 Sunday, October 28 Trip Overview Each of the four trips depart at 8:30 a.m. from the platform at the Huntington C&O Depot located at 7th Avenue and 8th Street in Huntington. The train will later stop in St. Albans and Montgomery, giving passengers the option of three boarding locations. After leaving Huntington, the train rolls through the Teays Valley area to the Kanawha River near St. Albans, staying along the Kanawha all the way to the mouth of the New River at Gauley Bridge. The tracks then follow the New River for the remainder of the trip into Hinton. Landmarks and scenic locations on the route include downtown Charleston and the State Capitol building, WVU Tech in Montgomery, Kanawha Falls, Hawks Nest Dam and bridge, the famous New River Gorge Bridge at Fayetteville, Grandview, Stretcher Neck Tunnel, Sandstone Falls, and numerous historical artifacts and towns from the New River's rich coal mining era. The trains routinely sell out early, so we encourage you to reserve your seats as soon as possible.
