Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Lewisburg
As the summer repertory season comes to a close, Greenbrier Valley Theatre would like to thank all its patrons for making summer 2007 another wonderful theatrical success.
This summer proved to be an exceptionally eclectic one, showcasing everything from the risque, cutting-edge production of Urinetown, the Musical, to paying homage to an epic classic in shows like I'll Never Be Hungry Again and Moonlight and Magnolias. Picasso at the Lapin Agile gave audience members a hilarious new perspective on genius, and the PB & J Cafe reminded everyone just how wonderful it can be to use a little magic and imagination. GVT even began a new tradition of performance in their smash-success of the Intern Cabaret.
Fueled by the summer's successes and a genuine desire to continue to bring excellence to local audiences, Greenbrier Valley Theatre is pleased to present its upcoming productions.
Back by popular demand is GVT's production of Always... Patsy Cline, starring Cathey Sawyer and Kelly Cash. This show celebrates the life and music of Patsy Cline through the retelling of her close friend and avid fan, Louise Seger. This tribute will play at the West Virginia State Fair, GVT's Hollowell Theatre, and will also tour throughout New York state.
Coming to the stage in October is Tennessee Williams' classic, A Streetcar Named Desire. This dark tale of passion surrounds the tumultuous relationship of the epic characters, Blanche and Stanley, weavng a spell of betrayal, fading Southern tradition, and the destruction of chivalry. This soul-wrenching drama is one of Williams' most famed and beloved, and is sure to become an audience favorite.
The season continues with the sequel to last season's light-hearted, Forever Plaid: Plaid Tidings. The wholesome singing group returns for a holiday spectacular, intermingling new tunes and old seasonal favorites; it promises to be a heart-warming evening of music and laughs for all ages.
The 2007 season will close with Greenbrier Valley Theatre's personalized retelling of Dickens' holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. This production features book and lyrics by Artistic Director, Cathey Sawyer, and music by Joe Buttram (arranged by Jeremy Fenn-Smith). Audiences will fall in love all over again as they witness the redemption of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, as told by his former partner, Jacob Marley. This epic tale is one you won't want to miss!
Five New Stars Light Up GVT’s Sidewalk
Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Lewisburg became brighter on August 3, 2007 when five new stars were revealed on the sidewalk in front of the theatre. These permanent markers honor the contributions of supporters whose magnitude of giving merits this level of recognition. Cast in bronze and inscribed with the donors’ names, the stars will be seen by generations to come.
GVT is pleased to recognize the following individuals for their generosity: Cleve and Ann Benedict of Lewisburg, WV; Jim and Cathy Justice of Lewisburg, WV; Ralph and Debbie Ballard of Charleston, WV; Lawson and Jeanne Hamilton of Lewisburg, WV; and Pat C. Fragile of Beckley, WV.
“We are delighted to present these new stars to recognize the generosity of people who have truly illuminated our theatre in so many important ways,” says GVT Development Director, Deanna Colaianne. “Our heartfelt gratitude goes to these philanthropic people.”

Auditions for GVT's 2007 production of Cathey C. Sawyer and Joe Buttram's
A Christmas Carol
will be held Sunday, October 14th from 1- 4pm in the rehearsal hall. This year's production will be directed (and musical directed) by Jeremy Fenn-Smith and is being designed by S. Glenn Brown. The cast will feature some GVT favorites: Joe Buttram will return as Scrooge, Danny Boone as Jacob Marley and the cast will also feature costumer Mary Spearen and actor intern Charles Cowen.
We will provide audition scripts, but auditionees should be prepared to sing something from memory. Try to think of your favorite Christmas or holiday song. It doesn't have to be very long. If you play a portable instrument and would like that to be included, bring it along and play us something. We'll have a detailed rehearsal schedule at the auditions, but potential cast members should know that the performance runs Nov 29 through Dec 21. This year we're playing in rep with Plaid Tidings so the run shouldn't be too tiring.
