West Virginia Executive Unveils Sports Hall of Fame
Premiere Sports Issue Focuses on Mountain State Athletics
Charleston, West Virginia – The West Virginia Executive Sports Hall of Fame will make its debut in May 2010 with the business publication’s first sports edition.
Members of the athletic community will be celebrated for their achievements in this issue as WVE uncovers just one more reason why every day is a great day to be a Mountaineer. The list is diverse and covers athletes from the last 20 years.
“We have always had an interest in doing a sports issue,” says Kensie Westerfield, editor in chief, “and the hall of fame gives us just one more opportunity to showcase the achievements of the Mountain State.”
In order to be considered for the WVE Sports Hall of Fame, athletic community individuals must: 1) be from or have spent some time playing sports in West Virginia, 2) competed in the last 20 years and 3) have a national, international or professional career or ranking.
“These perimeters,” says Westerfield, “allow us to take a fresh look at the athletic accomplishments in our state, focusing on the more recent and perhaps less known athletic stars.”
Football players and mountain bikers aren’t the only ones to be highlighted in the hall of fame. Anyone who has had a significant role in the sports industry was considered, and many of those included past and current winning coaches, ball club owners and even athletic directors.
“Sports isn’t just about the athletes, although they certainly make up the core. It also takes strong, committed individuals to drive the talented men and women to reach beyond their limits to succeed,” explains Westerfield. “This is why we felt it was important to include coaches and other support staff members in our consideration.” Readers will have to wait until the release of the magazine in May to find who was named into the hall of fame.
West Virginia Executive is West Virginia’s only statewide business-to-business publication. The magazine, which has been in production since 1998, was taken over by new ownership in 2008 and is now published under Executive Ink, LLC.
